Access to 200.000 new ebooks
As of September 2023, the UvA library has access to almost 200.000 new ebooks via CataloguePlus from four different publishers; Brill (25.000), De Gruyter (130.000), Taylor & Francis (35.000) and SAGE (5.700). Most publications are from the humanities and social sciences. Taylor & Francis included ebooks dating from 2017-2024. The other publishers offer access to their complete date range. In addition, all ebooks have unlimited simultaneous user access and can be downloaded as well (DRM Free).
Evidenced Based Acquisition
Access is made possible through an Evidenced Based Acquisition (EBA) subscription from the UvA Library with the publishers until September 2024. At the end of this access period, in August, the library (subject librarians) will decide which ebooks of the collections are going to be purchased. Usage statistics will give an indication of the popular books, but subject librarians can also choose publications that are important for the collection, though less consulted.

If you -as a lecturer/researcher- have certain ebooks from the EBA collections that you recommend purchasing in 2024, then please let me know via email (w.h.a.m.vandenbrink@uva.nl) so we can mark that particular book for purchase.
Recognising EBA ebooks in CataloguePlus
When finding an ebook in CataloguePlus, instead of choosing 'Available Online', opt for the title of the ebook. The following screen will refer to the ebook publisher. If this name contains the words EBA, then this is one of the EBA collection ebooks. See the example below.
Advantages EBA Collections
- Quick and easy access to recent literature
- Fewer purchase suggestions for the library
- Easy to share books for courses. From a copyright perspective linking to publications is always allowed.
Purchase suggestions for ebooks from other publishers or hard copies remain very welcome.
This is fabulous. EBA is a great source for anyone at the UvA for linking to the legally published version of anything at these important publishers. The EBA will make it easier for lecturers to link to literature for the students in their courses and not to have to upload pdf's to Canvas. How that works in Canvas? Use the CataloguePlus app in rich content editor. More information in the Support section of Canvas, search "embed citations"
